In the late 90's, energy bars became popular. But most were sports-focused and made for men. Women told us they liked the portability of bars but they felt they were too large, had too many calories, didn't taste very good, and lacked women-specific ingredients.

Many of the women here at Clif Bar & Company were in search of something right for us, too! So, we went into the kitchen, and in March 1999 created LUNA, the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women. LUNA was the perfect solution to an age-old women's problem - being too busy and active to get the right nutrition.
